The Three Biggest Mistakes I See on Wedding Days

After seven years of shooting weddings, I’ve seen it all. I’ve seen everything run smoothly, and worse, I’ve seen everything fall apart. The weddings that didn’t run so smoothly all had similar mistakes that could have easily been avoided! Friend, I’m here to help!

1. The couple didn’t hire a planner. Planners will not only make your life easier, but they’ll make your vendors’ lives easier too. A good planner will help set up your reception decor while you’re getting your hair done, they’ll bring you a coffee in the morning, cold water after photos in the hot sun, and a cocktail while you take a minute to breathe before entering the reception. Have an idea but don’t know how to execute it? Your planner probably has some great suggestions! They work with TONS of vendors, so they can make recommendations if you just can’t find the perfect florist, band, caterer, etc. They’ll also make sure your vendors are well-fed and hydrated (the number one reason why I LOVE planners). I have a little extra experience with this subject because I didn’t hire a planner for my own wedding! It was by far my biggest regret. Don’t be like me - hire a planner! If you can’t afford a planner, then at the very least hire a day-of coordinator. They’ll keep the day running smoothly. Here’s a secret - when there is no planner or coordinator, I often end up becoming the coordinator. This takes time away from photos I could be taking because I’m directing people on where to go and what to do.
